"We have to recognise that human flourishing is not a mechanical process; it’s an organic process. And you cannot predict the outcome of human development. All you can do, like a farmer, is create the conditions under which they will begin to flourish."
― Sir Ken Robinson
The ATTACH model
We aim to genuinely meet the young person where they are, using their existing interests to build a relationship of trust, creating felt physical and psychological safety, and from there increasing engagement and progress. Our primary therapeutic approach is DDP/PACE, an approach developed by Dr Dan Hughes through his work with children and young people with developmental trauma.
Progress may not be linear and needs may change, so all our programmes are flexible and responsive: they can be adapted, or young people can move between them over time. Individual Support Plans will detail bespoke provision to take account of not just educational needs, but also social, medical and mental health needs. A crucial part of our model is working with parents and young people as experts in their own lives. This, along with our work with the professional network around the family, supports dynamic risk assessment to mitigate risk. For us, a critical aspect of safeguarding is to go beyond monitoring and reporting, to anticipate and reduce the occurrence of risk incidents in all areas of the young person’s life, and to support the family when they do occur.
Our model incorporates continuous review, as well as supporting statutory review processes. We are developing a small-steps curriculum for each young person, based on the 3i approach of Intention, Implementation, Impact.
